Sydney, Australia: Cybercrime Squad Detectives Charge Man in Dark Net Drug Syndicate Investigation
A 38-year-old man has been charged by Cybercrime Squad detectives following an investigation into a dark net drug syndicate. The investigation, led by Strike Force Carieville, targeted a large-scale drug supply operation that is believed to have sold over $80 million worth of prohibited drugs over the past eight years.
Background of the Investigation
The group behind the dark net drug syndicate was operating one of the largest drug vendors on the dark web. Five people have been charged and remain before the courts as a result of the investigation.
Arrest and Charges
On March 31, 2026, strike force detectives, with the assistance of Raptor Squad, arrested the 38-year-old man in Thornleigh, a suburb of Sydney, and took him to Hornsby Police Station. The man was charged with:
- Knowingly dealing with proceeds of crime
- Three counts of failing to comply with a digital evidence access order direction
Seizures
During the investigation, police conducted searches at several locations, including:
- A unit on the Pacific Highway, Wahroonga, a suburb of Sydney, where they seized:
- Electronic devices
- $35,000 cash
- 20 grams of illicit drugs
- A home on Oxley Drive, Mount Colah, a suburb of Sydney, where they seized:
- An amount of cannabis
- A large amount of drug paraphernalia
Court Appearance and Bail
The 38-year-old man was refused bail and appeared at Hornsby Local Court in Sydney on April 1, 2026.
