Darkweb Hitman Plot: TikTok Influencer and Accomplices Charged in Alleged Murder Plot Against Singer Jack Avery
A social media influencer and her accomplices have been charged in connection with a plot to murder singer Jack Avery, a former member of the boy band Why Don't We.
The Alleged Plot
Gabriela Lauren Gonzalez, 24, a social media influencer with nearly half a million followers on TikTok and Instagram, has been charged with attempting to murder Jack Avery, 26, with whom she shares a 7-year-old daughter. Gonzalez, her father Francisco Gonzalez, 59, and ex-boyfriend Kai Faron Cordrey, 26, are accused of conspiring to hire a hitman from the darkweb to kill Avery.
The Investigation
According to court filings, the alleged plot was part of a custody dispute between Gonzalez and Avery. Prosecutors claim that Gonzalez repeatedly expressed a desire to have Avery killed and enlisted Cordrey's help in hiring a hitman from the darkweb. The group allegedly used Bitcoin to facilitate the plot and planned to make the killing appear to be an accident.

The alleged plot involved the following steps:
- Gonzalez and Cordrey discussed using Bitcoin on the darkweb to hire a hitman.
- Gonzalez's father sent Cordrey $10,000 as front money for the plot in April 2021.
- Cordrey requested and received an additional $4,000 from Francisco Gonzalez two months later.
- Cordrey identified Avery as the target and provided an address in Los Angeles.
- Cordrey allegedly requested that Avery be killed within a couple of days.

The defendants are charged with:
- Attempted murder
- Conspiracy to commit murder
- Solicitation of murder
The Evidence
The evidence against the defendants includes:
- Records of Bitcoin transactions

- Testimony from witnesses
The Undercover Operation
An undercover law enforcement officer posed as a hitman and communicated with Cordrey in September 2021. Cordrey allegedly told the undercover officer that Avery was the target and discussed payment and proof of death. In a subsequent conversation, Cordrey allegedly told the purported hitman that Gonzalez wanted the murder to happen and Francisco Gonzalez could pay for the expense.
The Arrests
Gonzalez was arrested in Northern California and appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom, wearing a blue hoodie, handcuffs, and her long curly hair. Her lawyer asked for more time to review the evidence, and the judge continued her arraignment to Thursday. The judge set bail at $2 million and ordered Gonzalez to stay at least 100 yards from Avery and their child, with no contact.
Francisco Gonzalez was arrested in Florida and is awaiting extradition. Cordrey is also in custody.
The Consequences
If convicted, the defendants face 25 years to life in state prison.
The Custody Dispute
The alleged plot was part of a custody dispute between Gonzalez and Avery, who share a 7-year-old daughter. Avery has expressed concerns for his safety and the well-being of their daughter, who has been placed with a foster family.
